description: This layer depicts open water features (lakes and rivers) as depicted in the 2000 Generalized Land Use dataset developed by the Metropolitan Council. It generally includes lakes larger than 3 acres and rivers wider than 200 feet. It may also include some smaller open water features. All features were manually classified as either a lake or river system. Lake identification numbers and names from the DNR Division of Waters have been assigned wherever possible to lakes in this dataset. For features without lake ID numbers, a unique number was automatically assigned. NOTES: - If the a water feature or a portion thereof has another possible land use classification, the other classification is used. For example, major highway crossings over rivers are classified as transportation; therefore, these sections do not show up in this dataset. Also, wastewater stabilization ponds, which can be quite large, are not shown in this layer. - The extent of water varies seasonally and annually with rainfall. The extent of water shown in this dataset is representative of the time the aerial photos were taken (5/1/2000 to 5/2/2000).
